QuickStart Guide

Welcome to The Gate! If this is your first time to the Active Worlds universe, you're probably a bit confused.

On this page, we have some tips for you that citizens typically already know, and common things said and done in Active Worlds. We try to simplify terms to get you going, easier. Most important concepts are generally in bold.

When you first enter the universe, you'll be in 'basic mode'. Your view will look something like the image below this paragraph(after everything is loaded). Basic mode is a more simple version of Active Worlds, we recommend you exit basic mode by clicking the 'Advanced Mode' button at the top of your browser.

View: Entry

After switching to Advanced Mode, you should, to provide the most Video Space(which is the area you can see other people and objects) is click, hold and drag the bar that encases your Chat area.

Moving around is quite simple once you get the hang of it. Once you can see all of the textures(colors) and pictures in your browser, you can begin to use your forward arrow key, backward arrow key, and left and right arrows keys to move around. Don't be afraid to push two at a time, you can turn while you move forward, for example.

You can fly too! Simply push the '+'(plus) key on your numberpad(to the right of your keyboard) to go up, and the '-'(minus) key to move down.

For more help with Moving, please visit our How to Move Around page.
